Apart from having at least avoided traffic, navigating through Antwerp wasn’t the most pleasant experience. Driving down cable car tracks just feels very unnatural. As we passed the street we were supposed to drive through, I looked over to my friend Van with the ‘of-course-face’. Of course it was under construction. She grinned, threw up her shoulders and said “eh, we’ll get there”. I was so happy to have her with me, calming force to the rescue. We met up with Lauren after parking the car and soon enough we set course to our first stop of the day, Feinest labels.
It was my first time visiting the press days in Antwerp, so with no idea what to expect I stepped through the big glass doors of the showroom. We got a lengthy explanation from all of the labels present but only a few really spoke to me. Starting off with one that encompasses my biggest obsession, lingerie.
lingerie was founded by Ophelia Debisschop – the wonderful woman in the photo below – who makes each individual piece by hand in her hometown Antwerp. Her aspirations are to make women feel less self-conscious about themselves and their bodies by working together with their husbands/boyfriends. The men come to her with the measurements of their significant others and together they design the perfect boudoir set as a surprise. I think this is a wonderful incentive and I’m sure she will make a lot of women – and men – happy through this original concept. She also designs ready to wear pieces and sells them on her – brand new – webshop.
The growling of my stomach indicated the arrival of noon and lucky for us SOUP & CO was present to still our hunger. They provided delicious carrot spice soup and pasta salad. They are based in my hometown Hasselt, so if you ever find yourself here, lunchbreak check. While eating my attention was drawn towards a big table in the middle of the room filled with beautiful tableware – which brings me to my second obsession, interior.
interior design concept was thought out by three people who share a passion for architecture and interior design. They run a store, produce furniture under their own label and make design projects for an entire house/office/shop. Their latest pop-up is also located in Hasselt and carries a few of my favorite scandinavian brands and many more. I encourage you to visit, if only for the building they chose. I can’t put into words how gorgeous it is, I’m pretty sure everyone would want to live there – it’s basically is a home turned to store – and the interior is spot on.
The last stop in our tour was a new label that produces the perfect end to our visit, chai latte. AND they brought samples. Needless to say we stayed just a bit longer. I reckon that it’s something you either love or hate because of the spices. But I loved it. They have four flavors in their assortment – Masala, vanilla, cardamom and lemongrass. The minute the masala flavored goodness touched my tastebuds I new it was going to be my favorite, all the right spices were there in all the right amounts. The vanilla one actually tasted like pudding, which is never bad – especially for people who don’t enjoy the spices like Lauren. One thing though, Van checked the amount of sugar in it and it is very high. It’ll be more of a dessert for me than a regular thee I’d drink throughout the day – but one I’ll be looking forward to nonetheless. #Ahuginamug
